We all know that the way to get to Carnegie Hall is to practice, but often practice doesn't seem to be enough...

Your voice is an internal instrument with  your whole body as its case.  Each voice is unique,  as is each person's experience and development both physically and mentally.  Traditional vocal exercise and repertoire training often can put us on the road to achieving our goals but just as curls might give us great biceps,  it only works one part... what about the rest of the instrument?

The holistic  approach  to  vocal  production not only works with whole body  mindfulness including alignment, posture, breath, muscle memory health and strength training  but also addresses the mental and psychological factors that can influence vocal production and explores methods of mental training and perceptual motor learning.

Each holistic plan of action  is  tailored to adress the unique needs of the individual.

Let's start at the very beginning----vocal production basics

Alignment

When the body is property aligned, the muscles  that are used to produce vocal sounds will function properly. When any part of the posture is out of alignment this can create stress which can instantly affect vocal production

Breath

The first thing you have to do before you can produce a sound is .... Breathe!  Many people have heard of the term "breath control"  but  considerably less understand how to fully employ the process to produce strong vocal sounds

Phonation

The vibration of the vocal cords is a small but vital part of the vocal production process. Builing strength in this area is vital to good vocal production. Weakness or looseness can result in breathiness,  inflamation or obstruction can result in hoarseness. A strong core is necessary for good phonation.

Resonation

So often i hear  " I don't like the sound of my voice".  First of all, we do not hear ourselves the way others hear us. However, if  it is a recording of our voice we don't like, then ther may be resonation issues.  Or regular everyday speech patterns are often not very conducive to good resonation. Often tension and habits  of our entire body can keep us from making the sounds we like to hear.
